RIVER FRONT
Tonawanda is a unique, comfortable, vacation cottage. Double doors open from the living room onto a large deck overlooking the Kalamazoo River as it winds out to Lake Michigan giving visitors a spectacular view along the water.
From the upper deck, the lower screened in porch adjacent to the lower bedrooms, or along the river's edge, you can enjoy river traffic as it passes by. You may see sailboats, luxury yachts, a paddle wheeler, pontoon boats, canoes, skidoos, and fishing boats.
A flight of stairs winds its way down to the river to a grassy area, which features a pit for small bonfires, and a dock complete with power and water that can accommodate up to a 40’ boat.
MAIN FLOOR
Although it was built in 1927, Tonawanda is ahead of its time. The main floor has an open floor plan containing the living room, dining room and kitchen. We have restored the building sensitively and have furnished it with a thoughtful combination of period antiques, contemporary pieces and locally significant artwork. Matching two story windows, each with over 100 panes of glass, define opposite ends of the living area ushering in a flood of natural light. The dining room table which seats up to 6 and kitchen are tucked under the upper bedrooms (4 more can sit at the kitchen counter). A massive wood-burning fireplace is at the center of the main living area which also features a games table, separate reading area and a television.
BEDROOMS
Tonawanda has four bedrooms (and three full bathrooms) and sleeps 6-7.
Downstairs are two bedrooms each with double doors opening onto the screened porch which stretches the full length of the building.
The larger bedroom has a queen bed, plenty of room for a small round table and four chairs, and the TV. The adjoining bathroom has its original clawfoot tub It is a great overflow space for children or those who might wish to take respite from a group upstairs.
The smaller bedroom has a queen sized bed and full bathroom with shower. From the bed is a gentle view down the river.
Above the main floor are two small bedrooms with an adjoining bathroom. One room has a double bed, the other a twin bed with double doors and private balcony overlooking the Kalamazoo River.
LAUNDRY & UTILITIES
While it is rustic, the cottage has the conveniences and services of home.
Tonawanda has three full bathrooms, two with old fashioned clawfoot tubs where you can soak away your cares or stand up and shower if you prefer.
A full size washing machine and dryer is at the bottom of the stairs on the lower level. Your beach towels and wraps can have a fresh start each day.
If your day's adventures left you too messy to step inside, check out the changing room along the lowest part of the cottage. Facing the river, it has a toilet, sink, and shower in a partially enclosed space. The view is great, the feeling invigorating.
